Natural Coiled BasketryOne-Day Workshop: Saturday, November, 7th 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Create beautiful, lasting baskets with your own hands, using natural materials from your yard and neighborhood. This one-day, hands-on class is ideal for anyone who wants to understand and create with natural materials. Basket making is more than a craft - it’s a way to reconnect with your hands, slow down, and transform simple fibers into something tangible. As we learn to work with a plant material, we understand the biology of that particular plant in a new way. We connect with the environment around us and that connection gives our work a unique, additional layer of meaning. We will discuss the many plant materials that are locally available, focusing on non-native, invasive plants that can be widely harvested. The class will work as a community of makers. Traditionally, the meditative time spent creating together gave makers a space to weave community knowledge. Hands and minds joined, chronicling shared stories.
What to Expect: You will leave with a finished basket and necessary tools for future creations. You’ll have knowledge of what local plant materials can be harvested and used, so you can build upon the skills learned and experiment on your own. *Please bring a lunch
