Oil Painting for Beginners

Beat the heat and fall in love with the captivating world of painting. Oil is a flexible and forgiving medium that allows for vivid color, luscious brush strokes, and easy correction…the perfect way to begin your painting journey. In this class you will learn the nuts and bolts of oil painting, from laying out your colors, brush types, paint application, confident color mixing, and the role values play in creating a compelling design. Along the way, Meg will discuss composition and demonstrate various ways to start a painting, how to create color harmony using a limited palette, and how different surfaces affect your painting.

Bio: Known for paintings drenched in light and color, Meg Walsh invites viewers into a world of serene moments that often pass unnoticed. Walsh has earned numerous awards at juried exhibitions and plein air competitions as well as a place in the book 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic. She is an elected member of the historic Washington Society of Landscape Painters and represented by galleries in Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.
