“Alla prima” translates from the Italian as “at once” – when applied to painting it refers to the creation of a painting in a short session, as opposed to the more traditional layering/glazing approach. In portraiture especially, “alla prima” work implies a quick grasp of gesture, shape, and proportion – these are the keys to capturing the character of an individual portrait subject. Please be prepared to start a new portrait each week. Participants work from the live model using oil,  pastel or charcoal.

*plus model fee of $50 payable to the instructor
